English Learners

At Coweta Charter Academy, we’re committed to helping students who are learning English succeed academically and socially. Our English Language Learners (ELL) program provides support to help students develop their English language skills while keeping up with grade-level content.

How We Identify and Support English Learners

  • During enrollment, families complete a short survey to see if a language other than English is spoken at home.

  • If needed, students take a placement test to determine if they qualify for English language services.

  • Qualified students are placed in our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program, where they receive targeted English instruction while staying in their regular classroom.

  • Instruction focuses on listening, speaking, reading, and writing, using strategies that help students succeed in all subjects.

Communication and Parent Involvement

  • We provide information about the ELL program in a language parents can understand whenever possible.

  • Families are notified if their child qualifies for services and can request to opt out of the program at any time.

  • Parents are encouraged to participate in meetings and decisions about their child’s progress.

How Students Exit the Program

  • Students are tested each year to measure their English progress.

  • When they reach state-determined proficiency levels, they exit the program but are monitored for two more years to ensure continued success.

Inclusive and Supportive Learning

  • English learners receive the same high-quality education as all students.

  • Lessons are adapted to match each student’s English proficiency while meeting Georgia’s academic standards.

  • Our goal is to ensure every child feels confident, supported, and prepared for lifelong learning.
