Announcements

While our students and families have been enjoying their summer, the CCA faculty, staff, and administration have been keeping very busy preparing our campus for the new school year.  Our floors are being shined, carpets have been removed & replaced, walls are being painted, furniture has been cleaned and dusted, lights have been changed, and the sidewalks are being scrubbed in preparation to welcome our young scholars back.  We have even added an additional art classroom, another Spanish class, and one more music room for the upcoming school year!  In our continuous effort to maintain a safe school environment, we have replaced our exterior doors, added more secure access systems, upgraded and expanded our camera systems throughout the building, and renovated our school clinic, too.  We can’t wait for you to see all the work that has been completed during our August 3^rd  Open House School Year Kickoff. Watch for the sneak peeks that will be coming out soon to our Facebook and Instagram sites! Amazing things are happening!

Beginning July 1, 2024, Coweta Charter Academy’s NEW website address will be https://cowetacharteracademy.org, so save this email to ensure you know where to go for the latest and greatest Coweta Charter Academy news!  As just announced, our emails are new, too. Effective immediately, all emails have changed.  Below are the emails that are most used for communication during the summer and a full list will be available on our new website July 1st. We have combed through tons of available academic options and secured the best to better assist us in instilling a love of learning! Gallopade Georgia Experience Social Studies makes a comeback for all grades, Kindergarten through 8^th. Our 5^th through 8^th grade students will LOVE our new Amplify Math, ELA, and Science curriculum, too.  For Kindergarten through 4^thgrade, we are bringing in Learning A-Z for Science, Reading, Writing Skills, & Vocabulary, Zearn for Math, and Handwriting Heroes to help our youngest students develop great handwriting. iReady has been replaced with NWEA MAP and Progress Learning (formerly USA Test Prep and Education Galaxy). Special Education students are getting some new resources, such as Let’s Go Learn, Unique, N2Y, and Symbolstix. Further, across various subjects and all grade levels, we are providing even more academic resources to reinforce concepts and better engage our students like BrainPOP, IXL, NewsELA, Raz Plus, Gizmos, Prodigy, GimKit, Mosa Mack, Smart Science, Kahoot, Beast Academy, and the list grows every day! Coweta Charter Academy’s goal is to make learning interesting, exciting, and engaging!  We are going to have FUN!

Our school has tried to allow students to have cell phones, smart watches, and personal electronic devices on campus and it just didn’t work. It is important that students focus on their coursework while at school, teachers need to have their students’ full attention and not have to worry about taking time out from their instructional duties to discipline/monitor students for cell phones, and sadly cell phones and personal electronic devices continued to be used by students for bullying and cheating.  Therefore, this year smart watches are not allowed at all, so please do not bring them to school. Cell phones and personal electronic devices are no longer allowed to be seen, turned on, and/or used at any time while on school property.   Prior to walking in the door of school, if a student has a cell phone in their bag, it needs to be turned COMPLETELY off and it MUST remain there until they leave school. Cell phones are not allowed to be taken out, used, seen, and/or turned on at any time while on school property.

After careful consideration, we have decided to change to a ‘Bring Your Lunch From Home‘ model and we will no longer offer school prepared lunches.  Over many years, Coweta Charter Academy has tried to find a lunch provider that the majority of students liked, and we just continued to see vast amounts of the food that was purchased thrown away and wasted and we had low student participation, as well.  CCA has gone through four school vendors in recent years, and we just could never find something that worked for everyone.  It is important for children to eat lunch every day, so we are going to see if less food is wasted, and the students actually eat if they bring to school what they like for lunch.  This change also makes it safer for our students with food allergies. That said, we do know that sometimes our students may want a break from their home prepared lunches, so we are working to secure pre-purchased vendor catered options, like Chick-Fil-A, pizza, etc. for several days of the school week. Our students would pre-order these vendor catered lunches a week in advance, pay for them, and they would be delivered to the school at lunchtime the next week.  Also, by popular demand, this change allows parents to start bringing in lunches from outside vendors and restaurants, again! Yay! Lastly, after surveying our students and taking their suggestions into consideration, we are also going to offer ice cream, popsicles, and/or frozen yogurt for sale on Fridays! We hope these changes will delight our students and make lunchtime more enjoyable for them.

Bolt, our beloved colt mascot, got a new ‘do’ & makeover this summer!  We have added a second uniform vendor, Lands’ End, for more uniform options, as well! There are cardigans, sweaters, additional jacket choices, more skorts and dress options, new P.E. uniforms, and accessories, too! Make sure you take advantage of the summer discounts and order early! You can find more information on our website under ‘School Uniforms’.  Although the new logos are extremely cool, if your student’s current uniforms still fit, please know that this year they may continue to wear last year’s uniform apparel with the original logo to help save some dollars.  

That said, we are moving forward with a P.E. uniform for the upcoming school year, so don’t forget to buy your P.E. shorts and shirt for this coming school year. P.E. tracksuits and sweatshirts are also available. On the days that your student is scheduled to participate in P.E. they can either wear their regular school uniform or they can wear the more relaxed P.E. uniform apparel. We are replacing non-uniform apparel for physical education days with a P.E. uniform to ensure that the clothes worn are appropriate for our school environment. Please be aware, if your student elects to wear the P.E. uniform, they will wear it all day as we do not allow students to change clothes at school.

A landscaping refresh is planned.  Fingers crossed that we can begin before the start of school, but with all of the boots on the ground, facility work being done, and this ridiculous heat wave it might be wisest to wait until after school starts.  We have to be practical after all.  Steel-toed boots, power washing hoses, wheelbarrows, construction dumpsters, and scorching ‘fry-an-egg’ temperatures are just not good for new plants and beds, but we will see how much time we have left before school starts to get things completed.  If we can’t start, then that might be our first school-wide call for volunteers to work with us to execute a school landscaping beautification plan. We can all get out and play in the dirt together! Great fun and an opportunity to get to know each other, too!

We have had a team working all summer on a plan to make school more fun, increase engagement opportunities, and to bridge the divide between home and school.  We are a TEAM, parents, guardians, administration, faculty, and staff, working together to support our students on making the most of school and reaching their full potential. Be prepared, because Maggie, Bonnie, and Michele are out to recruit you!   

• We want our fathers, grandfathers, and uncles to join our Fathers Being Involved (FBI) group! 
• Join the Bulletin Board Brigade (B3) if you like to be creative and DIY until your Pinterest heart’s content. We want a group of volunteers to change our bulletin boards out monthly! Come assist us in making our wall displays interesting for our kids!
• Help out with lunch time by opening containers, putting straws in juice pouches, microwaving lunches, and in general keeping the volume down to a minor roar!
• Assist with the before-school student program, after-school tutoring, or be a morning greeter and open car doors.
• Sign up to run a club or help out with one, be a substitute teacher, give a presentation or plan a cool class activity. Our students love seeing their parents at school!
• Attend a school event, help decorate for school-wide celebrations, or be part of our landscape beautification team. 

The volunteer opportunities are endless! We can’t do it alone and really want everyone to get involved!
