Health Care Plans
Coweta Charter Academy recommends students who have a severe allergy, asthma, cardic condition, diabetes, seizures, or other chronic health condition that may require medication or special care during school hours collaborate with your healthcare provider to submit a Health Care Plan to the school nurse/clinic.
Students returning to school after surgery or hospitalization are required to present from their healthcare provider a “Release/Return to School” and any instructions for PE, class or activity modifications.
Students returning to school after having a having a highly contagious virus or condition, except flu, cold, or covid, are required to present from their healthcare provider a “Release/Return to School”. Examples are measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough, pink eye, etc.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Coweta Charter will test hearing and vision for all first, third, and sixth grade students. Students in non-screening grade levels who are involved in the MTSS or receive Special Education services may also receive a school-based Hearing and Vision Screening upon parental consent. Parents/guardians may opt out of all school administered health screenings.
Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis screenings will be conducted with two middle school grades in accordance with state regulations. Students will receive a two-week notification of the screening schedule. Parents/guardians may opt out of all school administered health screenings.
Head Lice Screening
Students will be checked periodically for head lice. Students will be sent home immediately if school personnel find evidence of active lice in their hair. The student(s) may return to school after lice treatment and thorough combing has been administered, to remove lice and nits (eggs). The student(s) must first report to the school clinic before going to class to check for lice and/or nits each morning upon returning to school. If nits are still present in the student’s hair, the discretion of the nurse or trained staff will determine whether to send the student home. To prevent an outbreak of head lice, parents are encouraged to examine the hair of their children weekly.
Pink Eye Screening
Any eye conditions that appear to be infectious must be cleared by a doctor in order for the student to return to school. The student may return after 24 hours of the antibiotic treatment, if prescribed. This is for the protection of the student and their classmates.
Parents or legal guardians can object to any examination by providing written notification to the school clinic, within one week of the examinations. All screenings shall be conducted by appropriately trained personnel and shall be completed in accordance with the schedule established by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
